A Studio by Lester Lim & Yang OvO

Our practice is shaped as much by resistance as it is by making. In a cultural landscape driven by scale, speed, and visibility, we have chosen to work slowly and with care. After years of working within commercial design, we began to question what it means to make art that holds emotional weight, rather than simply responding to attention or trend.

Since becoming full-time artists, we have been less interested in producing objects for display alone, and more concerned with how art might live alongside people in everyday life. We think about paintings, toys, and objects not as endpoints, but as carriers of memory, feeling, and personal meaning.

Our work begins with an intention to remain sincere in how we look at the world. We try to approach making with an openness that resembles a child’s way of seeing — attentive, curious, and unguarded — allowing small emotions, overlooked moments, and quiet narratives to surface without being forced.

Mokuyo Studio exists to hold space for this way of working. Not to compete for attention, but to give voice to things that require slowing down, looking closer, and caring beyond the demands of the market.
